A suicide bomber riding a motorcycle crashed into a group protesters, and police in Lahore, Pakistan. The blast hit a group of pharmacists protesting changes to the drug act The blast hit an area near the Punjab Assembly Sunday February 12, 2017.
Pakistani media report 13 killed, and 73 wounded. Those deaths included at least six police officers. “We just couldn’t understand what happened,” Tufail Nabi told GEO News TV.
The attack happened while police were trying to negotiate an end to the protest. The bomber mixed with the protesters, and moved forward to get closer to the police. He then blew himself up.
The attack has angered many in Lahore. “They (the militants) have no link with Islam nor do they believe in any religion, the only thing they know is killing people.this is utterly an act of terrorism,” Tariq Saleem told AFP
Funerals were held for some victims Tuesday. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has declared it a day of mourning. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of the Taliban in Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack.
