CEAA Issues Notice of Hearing in CN Intermodal

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) has issued a Notice of Hearing on the CN Intermodal facility in Milton Ontario.

The notice came out April 16, 2019.  The hearings are designed as the next step in a review of the proposed Canadian National (CN) Intermodal facility in Milton Ontario.  They’ll begin June 19, 2019, and the public are invited to attend, as well as offer comments and questions.

CN first proposed an intermodal facility in 2015 in the area of Tremaine Rd, and Britannia in southwest Milton.   The company argues because it’s in a federally regulated industry, it doesn’t have to go through the usual planning channels described in provincial, and municipal legislation.

The Region of Halton, and  Town of Milton began a court challenge in February, 2018 over jurisdictional issues.  On Tuesday it was announced a court had granted a stay against the Region, pending the outcome of the Environmental Assessment.

CEAA spokesperson Karen Fish assures that the panel will listen to all feedback at the hearings. “This process will ensure the views of the views of the public, Indigenous groups and affected communities will be sought and considered,” she said in an email.

The hearings will take place at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 2750 High Point Drive, Milton.  Those wishing to participate are asked to fill out a registration form.  A full schedule of hearings will be available May 24, 2019.
