Celebrate the Olympics at Mattamy National Cycling Centre

Residents are invited to cheer for Milton’s track cyclists at a free “Celebrate the Olympics” event presented by RBC and the Town of Milton on Saturday, August 13 at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Olympic track cycling events will be streamed live on the jumbo screen for fans to cheer on the athletes in real time as they compete for gold. Additional opportunities to get into the spirit of the Games will include free RBC Try the Track programs (advance registration required) and the RBC Training Ground Activation, where participants can take athletic tests to see if they have podium potential. Family-friendly activities also include volleyball clinics, basketball clinics, relay races, yoga, virtual spinfit and face painting.

“We are proud to have these cycling athletes call Milton their training ground with some now calling Milton their home,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “The Mattamy National Cycling Centre has played an important part in contributing to their success, both in Canada and internationally. I’m looking forward to feeling the energy from the cheering hometown crowds fill the Mattamy National Cycling Centre as they go for gold!”

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Cycling Canada have named the 19 athletes who will represent Team Canada in all cycling disciplines at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games from August 5 to 21. Among the elite group of cyclists nominated are Olympic medallists Tara Whitten and Jasmin Glaesser as well as returning London 2012 team members Catharine Pendrel, Emily Batty, Laura Brown, Tory Nyhaug and Monique Sullivan. The team also includes Georgia Simmerling, who competed in alpine skiing at Vancouver 2010 and ski cross at Sochi 2014. She looks to become the first Canadian athlete to compete in a different sport at each of three Olympic Games.
