Dressing to walk into an interview — and out with a job

Picking an interview outfit is an important part of making a good first impression. To make yours count, check out these tips.

Don’t forget details. Often unnoticed details can create a subconscious profile in the mind of your potential employer before you even get a chance to shake their hand. A creased shirt could imply messy and rushed, while neatly polished nails can say you’re organized and have good attention to detail.

Balanced clothes. It doesn’t matter if you decide to go for a dress, skirt or trousers, as long as the fit is right and appropriate. Black and white pieces are often a go-to, but this means candidates often blend into one monochromatic blur. Try wearing one statement piece of color to grab the attention of the interviewer and help make you memorable.
