Halton Healthcare Awarded ‘Accreditation with Exemplary Standing’

Halton Healthcare has been awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada.

“The Accreditation Canada survey is one of the most comprehensive external reviews of health organizations,” said Denise Hardenne, President and CEO, Halton Healthcare. “It provides our patients, families and the community at large with assurances that we are meeting or exceeding national standards of quality in patient care.”

Halton Healthcare welcomed four Accreditation Canada surveyors from May 6-11, 2018 who conducted an on-site survey assessing the organization’s leadership, governance, clinical programs and services against rigorous quality and safety requirements. During their time, the surveyors visited all three hospitals – Georgetown Hospital, Milton District Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital – and spoke with many patients, families, patient and family advisors, community partners, staff, physicians, volunteers and Board members. The “tracer” methodology was used during their visit which provides a real-time experience of how a patient moves through the organization and how services are delivered to them.

“We are delighted upon hearing the news of our achievement of Accreditation with Exemplary Standing,” said Denise Hardenne. “This insightful process gave us the opportunity to put a spotlight on our work and accomplishments in providing our patients with the best care possible within our communities.”

The final report, received on June 6, 2018, confirmed that Halton Healthcare met 100% of the 28 Required Organizational Practices (ROP) which are essential practices that an organization must have in place to enhance patient safety. The organization also met 99.7% of the high priority criteria that contribute to safe, high quality care and are used to measure organizational compliance with Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum standards.

“We are honoured to receive the highest level of achievement possible under the Accreditation Canada Qmentum Program,” said John Nyholt, Chair, Board of Directors, Halton Healthcare. “The report speaks volumes about the quality care that we are providing within our communities.”

Surveyor’s comments in the summary report applauded the efforts of Halton Healthcare staff, physicians, volunteers and Board members and acknowledged that “Halton Healthcare Services Corporation has gone beyond the requirements of the Qmentum accreditation program and demonstrates excellence in quality improvement.”
