Independent filmmakers from Milton and the Golden Horseshoe are once again well represented at this year’s Milton Film Festival. Their work will be among ten short films to be shown alongside some of the most acclaimed feature films of the year at the seventh annual Festival, taking place January 24-26, 2020 at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton.
The festival received dozens of submissions by professional, amateur, and student filmmakers which were then shortlisted by Programming Chair and Short Film Coordinator Katherine Pearce, with final selections made by the Festival’s selection committee.
Milton native Steve Belford will be returning as the co-star of BEFORE THE DAY, about two brothers out on the town the night before a life-changing event. Belford has previously attended the Festival as a director, with short films screening at the 2014 and 2016 Festivals.
New to the Festival is Miltonian and Sheridan grad Scout Stolpmann. He will be presenting his film LEMON TREE, which takes a comedic look at the perils of modern high school life.
On a more serious note is ANEMONE, an experimental film about a desperately troubled young man, directed by Glenn McGarry of Waterdown. And Hamilton native Andy Reid will be presenting YOUR MOTHER AND I, about a young boy trying to save his parents’ marriage.
Other short films in the program include STOOD UP, MEMORIES, THE LITTLE GIRL WITH THE PLASTER PIPE, REMINISCING, VESSEL, and ADVANCES which stars 2019 Milton Film Festival attendee Paul Rivers. Most of the filmmakers will be attending to introduce their films.
