Milton Leisure Centre Celebrates 25 years

For 25 years, the Milton Leisure Centre has offered recreation experiences for Miltonians of all ages, including fitness, aquatics and special interest programs. The Milton Leisure Centre was the first full-service recreation facility in Milton, opening its doors in January of 1992. To commemorate this milestone, the Town of Milton is hosting a customer appreciation week and celebration event at the facility.

“The Milton Leisure Centre has been a gathering place for people of all ages for over 25 years,” said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “It holds a special place for Miltonians as it symbolizes how we can come together to create a legacy for the community.”

Beginning September 11, activities include a daily trivia challenge at the facility with prizes including an annual fitness membership, 10-visit fitness passes, and family swim/skate coupons. Facility visitors are also encouraged to post a photo or share a past experience of the facility on the community memory wall. On Saturday, September 16, Miltonians are invited to participate in free programming, including floor hockey, basketball, soccer, Zumba, line dancing, yoga and swimming. Activities begin at 10 a.m., with a commemorative ceremony starting at 11 a.m.

The event will also acknowledge and thank The Ontario 150 Community Capital Program for their generous support for recent venue refurbishments which included a $500,000 grant to improve the facility’s infrastructure, including a full roof replacement. The Ontario150 Community Capital Program grant provides one-time funding to support the repair, renovation or retrofit of community facilities – the public places and spaces where Ontarians come together to celebrate, create, play, explore, learn and support one another.

Halton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris saluted the facility’s position in the community. “For 25 years the Milton Leisure Centre has been a hub for families to gather and participate in activities such as swimming, basketball, yoga and summer camp,” said Indira Naidoo-Harris, MPP for Halton.”
