Ontario is investing in the music industry with 190 new grants that help local companies and artists across the province innovate, increase music production and attract new audiences.
Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, was at the launch of Canadian Music Week in Toronto today to make the announcement. “Ontario is home to a diverse music industry that draws people from all over to take advantage of our world calss recording facilities and to experience our vibrant live music scene,” McMahon said. Canadian Music Week is receiving funding from the Ontario Music Fund (OMF) that will help support industry initiatives including summits, an international marketplace, industry awards and various live events. The Canadian Music Week Festival will showcase over 800 artists at more than 40 venues over five nights in downtown Toronto.
The Ontario Music Fund grants will support music businesses that produce, distribute, present and promote Ontario-based music and artists in order to grow the province’s vibrant and competitive music industry.
Previous support from the program has helped to position Ontario as a leading destination for live music and music tourism. Since the Ontario Music Fund began in 2013, almost four million people have attended live music events supported by the fund, featuring more than 4,000 performances by Ontario artists.
