The Town of Milton is taking further action to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 to protect the health and safety of its staff and residents.
“On behalf of the Town of Milton, I strongly encourage residents and their families to follow Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health’s advice to seriously practice social distancing,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “We encourage you to step out for some fresh air but please remember that social distancing applies to outdoor spaces like playgrounds, basketball courts and skate parks. Let’s all do our part to flatten the curve and slow down the spread of COVID-19.”
The Town has implemented the following service changes to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to help the community in the areas of parking enforcement, transit, building permits and inspections and playgrounds
Parking Enforcement: This will be restricted to safety-related issues such as fire routes. The restrictions on overnight parking, as well as five-hour parking have been relaxed to allow for those who are isolated or working from home. Residents can dispute a ticket by emailing parking@milton.ca
Milton Transit: Continues to operate on a regular schedule, but without school specials. Transit will not collect fares until further notice. Passengers are being asked to use the rear doors to bard for the safety of drivers, and fellow passengers. Passengers with disabilities are to continue using the front doors.
Building Permits and Inspections: Building permits can be submitted via email in PDF format to: permitadmin@milton.ca. Inspections will be carried out independently by the Town’s building official, provided the project is in open air, and no more than two personnel are in the building. Inspections of occupied buildings will not be conducted at this time.
Parks and Public Spaces: The town will post signs in parks, playgrounds, skate parks, basketball courts and leash-free dog parks reminding residents of social distancing, and avoid touching surfaces.
Halton Region Public Health is the lead agency working with the Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario and local healthcare providers to monitor the COVID-19 situation and take actions as appropriate. Town of Milton staff are in constant communication with Halton Region Public Health to ensure the Town is prepared to reassess daily respond to the situation as it evolves.
