Trudeau Recognizes Philippine Independence Day

June is Philippine Heritage Month. Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recognized the 122nd anniversary of Philippine Independence with a statement.

“The Filipino community has become one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, reaching nearly one million people. The community enriches our national fabric, and plays a pivotal role in strengthening the close bonds between our two countries,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau urged Canadians to look to the future as Canada looks to deepen international trade, and development. “As we mark Philippine Independence Day and given that June is Filipino Heritage Month, I encourage all Canadians to recognize the significant contributions and the rich culture and traditions that past and present generations of Canadians of Filipino origin have brought to our country. I extend my best wishes to all those celebrating today in Canada, the Philippines, and around the world,” he said.
