Trudeau Speaks out on New York Terrorist Attack

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a statement on the apparent terrorist attack yesterday in New York City.  At approximately 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon a suspect drove a truck down a Manhattan bike path, killing 8, injuring 11.

The suspect has been identified as 19-year old Habibullaevic Salpov, of  Uzbekistan.  Salpov was in the U.S. legally.  He arrived in 2010 as part of a Diversity immigrant program.  Media reports indicate, he was shot in the abdomen by police after exiting his vehicle.  He remains in hospital, and is said to be cooperating with police.  Authorities say a note written in Arabic with a message saying roughly that the Islamic State

Trudeau offered Canada’s condolences.  “Canadians join me in offering our sincere condolences to those mourning the loss of family, and friends.”  Six victims died in the attack, and two died of their injuries.

Salpov is reported to have been radicalized in the Untied States.   Early indications are he is affiliated with the Islamic State.  Security experts believe he had the attack planned for weeks in advance.
